The Calotte Academy 2011 will be organized in May 26 – June 1, 2011 in Inari, Finland, in Kirkenes, Norway, and in Apatity, Russia.

The focus of the 2011 Calotte Academy is on stability, peace, tension and conflict - both in general security in international relations and politics, and particularly how they are structured in the Arctic Region. Consequently, the main theme is “From Circumpolar Stability toward Nordic Peace”. The aim is that the papers and presentations of the Calotte Academy 2011 would deal with stability and peace, and security either in general and theoretically, or having the entire circumpolar North / North Europe / the Barents Sea region as a case study.

About the Calotte Academy

The Calotte Academy is an annual, international travelling symposium for a dialogue among members of the research community and (post)graduate students, and a wide range of other experts and northern stakeholders, such as policy-makers, community leaders and civil servants.

The Calotte Academy is structured so that there will be includes both academic and public sessions with expert presentations, and presentations by (post)graduate students in each location. This is implemented so that an international group of researchers, other experts and (post)graduate students from Europe, North America and Russia travel together in the sites of the Academy which are located in North Finland, North Norway and the Murmansk Region in Russia. In the 2011 Academy this will be implemented so that an international group of researchers, other experts and doctoral students from Europe, North America and Russia have their presentations in sessions in the three sites of the Academy in Finland, Norway and Russia.
