Call for applications for participation

The International scientific conference on “Protected areas in the 21st century: state-of-the-art and development perspectives” is to take place in Petrozavodsk on June 1-3, 2011.

Conference venue: Karelian Research Centre of RAS, Pushkinskaya St. 11, Petrozavodsk.

The aim of the conference is to discuss the most important results of and challenges in the activities of strict nature reserves and national parks in Russia and adjacent countries, as well as of regional-level protected areas. The conference will include plenary and panel sessions with paper presentations and posters

The conference is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Vodlozersky National Park. Field excursions to the Park will be offered to the participants in the period from 4th to 10th of June.

Conference Themes

• Promoting international and interregional cooperation with view to establishment of a sustainable PA system in the North of Europe
• Study and conservation of typical and unique nature units in PAs
• Issues of monitoring and restoration of disturbed natural complexes in PAs
• Study and conservation of cultural heritage in PAs
• Environmental education and tourism development in PAs
• Application of modern information technologies (Internet, GIS, databases, etc.) in nature conservation activities
