The final report from the Calotte Academy in 2008 is now availabe at the NRF website.
The main aim of the Academy is to promote the interplay between science and politics by having a policyoriented dialogue among junior and senior members of the research community and a wide range of other stakeholders, such as policymakers, civil activists, resource users and business people. Consequently, it has also served since 2002 as a regional subforum and workshop for the NRF to discuss on the themes of the forthcoming Open Assembly. The main theme of the 2008 Academy was "Climate Change Defining Human Security" with several integrated sub-themes which were “Climate change as a new discipline for disciplining?”, “Climate change and livelihoods”, “Climate change and indigenous peoples”, “Climate change, oil drilling and transportation”, “Climate change and alternative energy” and “Climate change, sovereignty and international law”.
