Economies in the North Print

The NRF theme project group on Northern Economy provides a forum for discussing issues and challenges of Arctic economies and local communities. The group is linked to a wide research network including the research consortium on Political Economy of Northern Regional Development (POENOR). Participants of this NRF theme group are - as part of their individual projects and networks - conducting a broad range of research on the northen economy, which help provide input to the NRF theme group.

Some of the research foci include global change impacts, economic impacts of climate change, human development and quality of life in the north, monitoring systems and database development, comparative analyses of regions and local communities, and research on the renewable and non-renewable resource sectors and industrial development in the North.

The overall objective is to facilitate discussion to help further our understanding of the Arctic economy and all of its three parts - the market and non-market economy and the transfer sector - including the development of a framework to facilitate more systematic analyses, including comparisons and contrasts at various scales across the Circumpolar North.
