Dr. Peter Johnson is Emeritus Professor in Geography at the University of Ottawa, Canada and a Research Fellow of the Arctic Institute of North America. His research and teaching career focused on the physical environment of arctic and mountain environments and involved a strong commitment to field programs in physical geography and glaciology in undergraduate training. He filled a number of roles in national and international arctic science with the Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies, the Canadian Polar Commission, the Canadian IPY National Committee, the University of the Arctic and the International Arctic Science Committee. He is currently a member of the Science Advisory Board for the Department of National Defense in Canada, a member the Partnership Group for Science and Engineering, and Chair of the Board for the Storm Systems in the Arctic research network of the Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences. He was one of the founding members of the NRF Steering Committee.
